  • Credit Monitoring- Opinions Needed

So what do you guys think? My kids where part of the Anthem hack, geez I don't know how long ago, 3 years?? Anyway as part of that they were able to get their credit froze for free. I froze my son's at the time and only just recently froze my daughters credit with the whole Equifax hack.

So now I get a Court Approved Legal Notice in the mail that says we are eligible for two years of free credit monitoring. As long as their credit is froze why would I need to monitor their credit?

If we opt out of the free credit monitoring we can claim a $36 Alternative Compensation payment. I'm thinking of getting the $$ unless anyone sees any fault in my logic that with frozen credit you don't need monitoring.

    Thanx

From what I have read, someone can unfreeze their credit. Or the credit bureau can mistakenly add someone else's info to their accounts.

We should get free monitoring for life. That is how long we will be dealing with this.

Definitely take the monitoring. Not all credit grantors run your credit first. So it's possible for someone to get credit in your name despite the freeze and you won't know about it until it shows up on your credit report.
