  • "Dumpster diving" at Petco?

I was talking with my boyfriend and he said some people pull expired pet food from Petco dumpsters. Now he wants to go do it. Sounds a little extreme to me. What do you guys think?

In this day and age, I imagine Petco has locked dumpsters. Besides, I think the stuff in dumpsters used by stores either belongs to the store or to the company hired to haul it away, which is a little different than dumpsters provided by a unit of government such as in the alleys of a city. I'd say taking from those dumpsters puts one at risk for trespassing and theft charges.

Doesn't this store offer really good deals on pet food that is near best by or use by dates?

There are a lot of youtube videos about this. Some people even find live animals, which is just beyond cruel. I don't think our Petsmart dumpsters are locked, but they are near the front of the strip mall so anyone can see what you are doing.

Not sure about every pet store, but our Petsmart offers between 50% and 90% discounts, depending on the expiration date. I don't see them regularly, though.
