Kim, you can, but its a lot more expensive. Why not save your money for a couple of years and focus on getting your bills paid on time instead? Your credit score will eventually reflect that.james.c.hendrickson@gmail.com

When I purchased my home, I had no credit (not bad credit).
The key is finding a lender who is actually willing to underwrite the loan.
Things they will look at include the ratio of the payment to your monthly income, how long you've been employed, and they like seeing you've paid your bills on time (this could be rent, power, cell phone). Having a larger down payment will also help.
In the mean time, you may want to work on repairing your credit. It will probably take the better part of a year or longer. Pay up all delinquent accounts. Make all future payments on time and in full if possible.
