  • how many GigaBytes do you use monthly? and cost?

im looking for ways to save on my cell and home wifi, paying around $140 for both. i thought i could get a $60 unlimited mobile plan from a few different carriers and cut the home internet but the unlimited plans say they throttle down after you use 30 GB for the month. i just looked at my home internet bill and were using around 175 GB so i might need to keep the home wifi but changing to a $60 unlimited plan will save me $20

whats a better cost efficient home/mobile internet solution?

    Our plan allocations:
    * Home internet - 250GB @ 100Mbps for $85/mo ... and just got an email today saying that they're "upgrading" (a.k.a. upcharging) our service to 150Mbps for $92/mo. As with most things in Alaska, everything is egregiously overpriced. I would step us down a tier for this, but the only lower tier is 50GB @ 50Mbps for $60/mo, which wouldn't nearly meet our usage.
    * Cell phone data - Shared plan with my brothers. Officially the 8GB plan, but we also have a permanent 8GB of "bonus" data, plus monthly rollover, which typically ends up being between 8-10GB/mo. So we share 24-26GB between the 4 of us, and DW & I pay $90/mo for our two phones.

    Our actual usage:
    * Home internet - Between 60-125GB/mo, dependent mostly on how much Netflix streaming we do.
    * Cell phone data - I use about 1GB/mo. DW uses anywhere from 1-3GB/mo. My brothers us similar amounts, one brother uses about 1GB/mo, the other uses 1-3GB. On average, we use 6-8GB/mo, so our base amount of 8GB is about right...but we can't go down at all because the next lower plan only has (I think) 4GB of data with no bonus or rollover data. So we're stuck there too. Oh, and here in Alaska, only Verizon and AT&T have any service due to the types of towers used up here. So we have very little flexibility to change.

$140 for home internet and cell phone isnt that much. If you're not a slave to data with your cell phone then there are ways to get a much cheaper plan...but most people want to use a couple gigs/month...which requires plans that are $40+

Internet is internet. Most only have 1 or 2 choices as a provider so you're stuck paying whatever they charge.

It depends what you use home internet for. Streaming, gaming, work, etc etc? That would determine what you need.

When I upgraded my collection of movies to higher def...I went through 800gb/month. Typically I dont go over 300GB though. Theres no cap with comcast where I am thankfully. I pay around $50/month for 25 down. When we move we'll be getting 100meg down and that will run around $85/month...data cap at 1TB.
