  • what's a reasonable amount to pay for car insurance?

I had a great policy with Amica all my life but got dropped when my car was totaled. I got put into the high risk pool with Progressive. Amina said I could come back after three clean years but the last time I checked, they still said no. Now I'm down to $1600 a year for car insurance with Progressive. That seems relatively reasonable but I don't remember what I used to pay Amica. How does that sound for one adult driver?

That's an impossible question to answer. There are way too many variables involved. Rates depend on age, gender, driving record, driving habits, location, vehicle, credit score, terms of policy, and more.

If you want to know if the rate is reasonable, get quotes from several local companies and compare. Asking online really won't help you.

    * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

Yeah, unfortunately this is so dramatically variable by location, personal history, and so on that it's truly impossible to give you anything that's meaningful. Especially with the collision in your history, every company will rate that differently. Best recommendation is to get alot of quotes from a bunch of different companies... GEICO, State Farm, Farmers, Progressive, Liberty Mutual, and any else that you can think of. The important piece is to compare identical coverages across all of those companies so you know you're comparing apples to apples. Also, you can shop around every 6-12 months and see if anyone will give you more desirable rates as time passes since your accident.

Another option is to hire an independent insurance agent to do the price shopping for you, though they'll tack on a charge to your rate for their fee as well...

You can probably do it all online which would likely be a lot quicker and easier.

too many variables and coverages to even begin to answer the question. Your best bet would be to get quotes from different companies and compare.

note that the liability types of insurance are far more important than the vehicle deductibles, which is typically what people are most worried about. The normal state minimums for liability insurance is way too low. Bodily injury including medical is most important followed by property damage.
