  • Do you still have a landline phone?

I read some where that about half of the households no longer have a landline phone. Do you still have a landline? About 7 years ago I cancelled my AT & T landline phone at $40 a month. 7 years x 12 months a year x $40 = $3360 saved.

Officially no. But we do have VoIP line with Ooma. We pay $4.68 a month and we rarely get calls on it. I'm debating on letting it go, but at times our cell service in our home is terrible, so it is nice for a back up when having a extended long distance conversation with relatives.

If you have a cell phone and you have decent coverage, it is hard to find a need for a landline.

We use google voice, which gives you a virtual number. That number is our "home" number we give out to businesses, doctors, etc. We have it configured to ring both our cell phones, so no matter where we are in the country, someone dials that number, we get the call. It is free and a great product. You can screen, whitelist, blacklist, get text message transcripts of voicemails.

We still have a land line, mostly for my MIL who doesn't want to use a cell phone and partly because we live out in the woods and my wife likes the security of a landline.

We still have ours and it's really my own fault and procrastination. We actually have Comcast phone service on our account. We got it when we upgraded last year because it actually lowered our bill to have it thanks to the promotion at the time. But I've never activated it. I really need to do that one of these days. The phone number is sitting on my desk.

I have one but I don't have it hooked up. I signed up for it because it was cheaper to get cable and internet if I bundled it with a land line through Comcast. I don't have a land line phone and I don't even know the number

Since when does Comcast offer land line phone service?

I miss the landline because the sound quality was so much better than our cell phones.

Can I get a cell phone whose sound quality matches a landline? My spouse and I both have cheapies. They are different from each other in sound quality, but both leave something to be desired. Especially as my spouse is losing hearing we should get better phones. If we are talking to someone else also on a cell, does that double up on the sound problems?

I have never had a land line phone, since I moved out of home after high school (2004). It would be completely needless for us. We do have a Google voice number that rings to both of our phones and we use as a "home phone" to give someone who might need either one of us, like doctors, daycare, etc.

I can see having it if it's cheaper overall to bundle services for internet/TV/phone, but we don't have a desire for phone or TV service, so that's not compelling for us at all.... But then, even if it's cheaper with the bundle, you also have to go through the harassment of arguing for the lower rate every 6 or 12 months. No thanks...

DS insisted we relinquish our landline when we switched from flip phone to iPhone to make sure we made the effort to use all the features pertinent to our lifestyle and needs. I loved the fact that telemarketing stopped but lately we've had a couple of political survey's and I wonder if they've hacked phone codes

JoanotA, If voice quality is an issue, I wonder if you've considered buying a used, unlocked, iPhone for quality. You can use a provider of choice.

We have iPhones. I got telemarketing calls pretty regularly. Drives me nuts because I'm usually at work when I get them but I can't not answer my phone because I use it for professional purposes also.

We have VoIP too bundled with our cable and internet.

I also don't like the sound quality of cell phones. Sometimes it's others cell phones that sound like crap. My sisters is pretty awful, she always sounds all garberly (is that a word).

Plus it's more comfortable to hold my cordless phone or cradle it in the crook of my neck while I use both hands for other things :-).
