  • Open a store credit card for store credit?

I'm interested in general opinion on opening a store credit card to get store credit. I'm planning on buying about $1200 of furniture from Crate & Barrel, If I open a C&B credit card I will get about $120 C&B dollars for future purchase. is it worth the hassle?

As long as you pay the balance off in full when the bill comes and you don't get charged interest, then go for it. I've signed up for store credit cards to take advantage of 0% finance offers.

Do not put any other purchases on the card until the balance is zero. Many of these "offers" allocate payments to the most recent purchase and not the one that is due the soonest to avoid interest.

          Thanks!

I don't plan on using the card aside from the furniture purchase and it will be paid in full. I'm a simple consumer, I use only one card, I know i'm probably not getting the best points/cash back but I just don' t have the time to track which card to use where.

I have a friend that gets great benefits from her card use, she will use one card for gas, another for groceries, another for travel, etc. I admire the benefits she's getting but I can't do it.

We've done this a few times over the years, mostly when we were first married and furnishing our home. Most recently, we did it a few years ago at Macy's when we were buying a vacuum cleaner. Between the discount and a special they were running only for card holders, we saved more than enough to make it worth doing.

Just one more benefit of having good credit. You can save hundreds of dollars doing this.

We do this all the time. Generally we open the card, get the bonus, pay it off, close it. & then we can repeat next time we make a big purchase.

I'd say it's just up to you personally if you feel comfortable with it. It's easy money.
