  • Amazon Smile

I know there are several members that shop on Amazon. Some of you may have already known this, but I just found out today that my shopping can benefit one of the charities we support. The percentage is only .5% but it is a way to further support a charity with no real effort on your part.

Just thought this might be of interest to the group.

I use it, but it can be hard to remember to go to smile.amazon instead of just amazon. You can have Amazon add a prompt to go to smile, but I forgot how to do it.

I have the reminder set to go through Amazon Smile, but I still manage to forget. I always seem to get the reminder when I'm just browsing, and I forget to go through Amazon Smile when I'm ready to checkout. But, I did convince my church to get an account set up and let people know about it, and a small business owner who gets a lot of his inventory from Amazon has started using it. So, I feel like I've helped.

Why don't companies just make it the default choice; then people who don't like to give any of their purchase money just unclick it?

        Send amazon an email.

I have Smile as the saved bookmark in my browser, so I go by default to Smile. It would be nice if they just used a cookie setting to always go there. Since they're taking us like crazy with cookies anyway, they could at least make it somewhat useful.

I like the idea of Smile, but .5% truly is very minimal. I've used it for most of my purchases over the last 3 or 4 years, and I recently saw a tally of my "contributions" through the program -- about $5.60 ..... How very inspiring....

Yeah, clearly to have a big impact the charity needs to have a lot of shoppers selecting them. I plan to set up the bookmark tonight when I get home.

There are plugins available for most popular browsers that will always put you on smile.amazon.

Its a no-brainer... only .5% but that adds up fast.

Just install a plugin like one of these and you wont have to give it a second thought... any links you find to amazon will redirect to smile.amazon URLs.

I get to the Amazon site through Ebates. Does anyone know if you can earn ebate money and still give to Smile?

Good tip. Yes, I have used Amazon Smile for several years to donate to an animal rescue group, although the amount is pretty anemic ($6 so far).

I'm sure that becomes part of Amazon's "profile" on me.

I do the same as kork13. When I want to go to Amazon, I just click on the bookmark. msomnipotent, are you actually typing in the address every time? Much quicker to use a bookmark. Then it's just one click to the site and you'll never forget to use smile again.

As for the amount that any one person donates being minimal, that's not the point. The way these affinity types of programs work is by gathering thousands of minimal amounts together to equal real money. If they get $5 from every Amazon user every year, that equals a very large number.

Requires finding it in a huge list of bookmarks...

"Smart address bar search" means that in Chrome & FF, after a few times for training, you just need to type in "smil" and it'll bring up smile.amazon.com as the first choice.

I use Firefox. There is a bookmark bar across the top of the screen that has 12 sites that I use most often. Amazon is one of them, so I just have to click on that. No searching required.
