Bit of a hassle, but if you are done with new credit outside of known situations (planning enough ahead) that probably is the best way to avoid identity theft. You can just as easily call each bureau and have it unlocked when you knew you wanted to do something with it.Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you're stupid and make bad choices.
