  • FRUSTRATED with Experian

My H and I have not been able to order our credit reports with them online for the past 7 to 8 years. We have NO freaking clue why. Our online a/cs with them are apparently still active but the pwds no longer work, and we are unable to reset passwords online (we're tired of trying to do this). Calling the number Experian flashes online to get "help" with "unlocking" our a/cs ALWAYS gets us to an automated system that simply goes into loops and says to reset pwd online (when I select the prompt for trouble logging in). Other options simply say to mail in a credit report request with copies of our licenses.

We never bothered much before because we would get our reports from the other two agencies. Now, we're frustrated because we MAY be buying a home soon, and I'm really concerned about this inability to get a report from Experian AND the inability to reach a human being there to discuss this.

Do any of you have phone numbers that connect to a human *located in America* that we could speak to? Is anyone else facing similar challenges getting a credit report from Experian?

That sounds really frustrating. I'm surprised they don't have an "I forgot my password" link on the website.

I don't have a phone number but that's really not the best way to get customer service these days anyway. I would recommend tweeting something and tagging them. That should get a response way faster than a phone call or snail mail.

Although I've not tried this, I think the info on Clark Howard's site is usually pretty solid, so maybe give the number in this article a try?
Tired of talking to robots? Here's how to reach a real live person at the three major credit bureaus: Experian, TransUnion and Equifax.

When we try to reset password, it gives us a phone number that then tells us to reset the password online. This is the message we get:

Call us toll-free at 1-866-617-1894 Hours of operation: Mon - Fri: 6 am to 8 pm PT Sat - Sun: 8 am to 5 pm PT

Try it yourself. It makes me so mad.

Call that number, then choose Option 1 (questions about membership?) and then Option 2 (having trouble logging in?).

IT IS FRUSTRATING. Are they morons? Online, they say to call the number above, and on the phone they claim you can reset password online!

Same experience with me. I have been locked out trying to reset my password. I call their number which has an automated message saying go to their website and the call ends. I've tried "reset password" but I don't get the email. I may try snail mail and request a reset password with a temporary password. It's been years where I build up courage to take on Experian but always end up disappointed with them, lol.

I decided to try and create a new account with Experian and it worked using the same email address too, and it worked. And I had already drafted a snail mail paper request for a password reset and a new temporary password. I peeled off the forever stamp carefully to save it for a future use. I never know when I'll need to apply for a credit line and to unfreeze my security freeze. It's been years since I've been able to get into Experian. In Nov 2024, I bought a new car and unfroze Trans Union & Equifax security freezes but could not get into Experian's website and fortunately the Chevy dealership was able to process my loan with just Trans Union & Equifax. Now, I'm good to go with all 3 again. There is actually a 4th credit agency call Innovis which I also put a freeze but they must be so insignificant that nobody uses them.

I just logged into mine without issue.

You might consider trying their fraud number 1-888-397-3742. If nothing else they should probably be able to patch you over to the right department.
