15 eggs in 1956? Whatttttt? Aldi was selling a dozen eggs for 69 cents the other day.

On another note, $89 is what cost you to get a TI83 20 years ago, and still cost the same today even though the hardware is worth about 2 dollars. My smart watch is probably 500 times faster..... Thank you standardization of only having a single brand of calculator to be taught in school.

It's always kind of interesting to look at these sorts of things (though this one gives too little detail to be useful). Some things have gotten far more expensive over time. Other things, like eggs, have gotten way cheaper. I've also paid under $1 for a dozen recently.

Of course, you also need to look at context, like salaries, to put things in perspective. It also helps to convert the figures to 2016 dollars with an inflation calculator.

            * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
            * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
            * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

I agree with all of your statements but still fun to look at.

As for the eggs, stumbled upon a story regarding the drop in egg prices.

A 1-liter bottle of Coke was $1 in 1982!? That seems really strange to me when $1 is the usual sale price of a 2-liter nowadays.

$1 can't even buy 1B of RAM when I was born. I've not priced RAM lately, but the last time I bought it was about $1 for 100MB of good old 1600MHz DDR3 about 2 years ago. (Actually, I just priced it right now, it's about $1 for 200MB now.)

Now talk the power of the dollar!

The thread is about what you could buy when you were born, not what you can buy now

One box of Kleenex, 200 count.

I see the same thing for about 2$ at Walmart. Dollar store brand (which is like sandpaper) is around 1$. Interesting.

That is the type of item you can get at a deal on at the drug store if you check the ads. I would say maybe once a month or so, Walgreens has all of their store brand (actually can't tell the difference) tissue on sale for $.99. Their varieties available go up to 184 count. When I see that, I try to get there the day of the sale because the 184s go quick. I will usually buy 5 or 6 unless we still have some at home, and then will just buy a few to restock.
