  • Being frugal is paying off for us . . . . .

My husband of one month just lost his job. He started a union and was just about to negotiate a contract, and he received a termination letter and no reason was given for his termination. (Yes, we know that this is illegal and we are pursuing it.)

My husband graduated from fire academy as the #1 student. He has done extremely well in his EMT class. He has received many accolades as a firefighter. He is a superb firefighter, so obviously this is not something we expected.

Before my husband lost his job, we were making over $100K a year. We could be riding around in expensive sports cars or sporting expensive clothes, but we made a commitment to living a frugal lifestyle. If we hadn't, we would be in a world of hurt right now! The only major bill we have is our house payment. Our cars are paid off. I paid off nearly all the wedding costs in one month (we owe ~$1K). We have $10K in savings.

The stress of the illegal activities by his former employess and the stress this has caused on my husband's self esteem is enough to deal with right now. I cannot imagine what it would be like to be worried about finances right now. The only substantial financial difference is that we can't continue with our plan to put most of his salary into savings.

I am glad your finances are such that his unjust termination is not going to destroy your finances. I have seen this sort of strong arm crap before. It is illegal. Best wishes to you and your husband and a hope that you nail those creeps who did this!

      on frugality!

      on termination.

I hope his wrongful termination gets resolved quickly, because that is just completely unacceptable.
