  • would you call and ask?

on two things. The first being that I had eye surgery in July that I had to pay for because I hadn't met my in-network deductible yet. But I never received a bill from the eye surgeon, she just sent me a bill for a recent co-pay so I'm figuring I should've got the surgery bill by now. So do I call and ask, "hey, where's my surgery bill?" or wait and see if I ever get billed, maybe they ate the cost. But I want the bill in this calendar year if I'm going to get one for tax purposes, it will be easier to have the bill by tax time.

the second question- having the first eye surgery met my in-network deductible, supposedly I'd still have co-pays and prescription costs. When I go to get scripts now, they are free. Should I call my COBRA plan and alert them to the fact I am getting scripts for free or maybe the worker who told me I had to pay for scripts was wrong? Again, I don't want to open my mouth and end up having to pay when maybe if I keep quiet, I won't.

I would call them... the peace of mind is worth it, and you might find out you don't owe anything.

I would definitely not ask about the free prescriptions. The pharmacy submits the claim each time they fill a prescription to find out what you owe. If the company is saying you owe $0, don't question it.

As for the eye surgery, have you gotten an Explanation of Benefits form (EOB) from your insurance company showing that the doctor submitted a claim for the surgery? They must have if your deductible is now showing as having been met. The EOB should show what was billed, what was covered by the plan, if anything, and what your responsibility is. It may still take some time from that point to actually get the bill from the doctor.

I understand that you want it in this tax year but you've still got a bit over 3 months for that to happen. I'd give it another month - 90 days from the surgery. If you still haven't heard from them, and the EOB says you owe money, give them a call. Don't hesitate to let them know that you're paying out of pocket and ask if they can offer any discount for payment in full.

It showed on the EOB that I owe. I didn't even think of asking for a discount if I pay in full, thx
