So, what are everyone's thoughts on the shape of the forums? Better than before? The same? I think hiding the older threads from new members eliminated a lot of the spam. I've noticed less spam in general. The additional moderator seems to be helping curb it as well. We're still working on creating a rule so new members need moderator approval before posting.

What else would make things better here? Maybe some additional subforums to address some subject matter currently not represented? Post your thoughts below. Good or bad I'd like to know.

    Thanks
    Brian

Thank you for your work! Things are much better. I don't have any suggestions for changes. I feel subthreads may overkill though.

The spam definitely seems better thought the old thread issue isn't 100% resolved. I've had to close a couple myself.

James, there is still a Freebies forum and it looks like there have been recent posts. I'm not sure what you're referring to.

I think that if a tenured member (one with 1000 + posts) replies to an old thread, then it will become visible to new members.

There also seem to be some that slip through the cracks for some reason. Could be a software glitch.

I removed a spam this morning. Things do seem better.

As for the new content, I would imagine most people don't just lurk on here for hours at a time so I wouldn't want to over saturate the site with subjects. You'd probably get less activity. I know when I visit a site and I have to scroll for days to get to a category I want it just feels too cumbersome and I have doubts I'll get any real response to my posts.
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you're stupid and make bad choices.

I am super happy with the lack of spam and reignited ancient threads, thank you.

So after a hiatus, I return to find that the site appears to be under new management or something like that?

Functionally, the forum seems the same as before, except for the new Facebookish like button which I actually like.... Is that new or has it been there for a while?

Only thing I find "missing" on the forums are links that takes me to the blogs and other places within the SA domain. It's a minor thing, but I sure wouldn't mind seeing those links back as they were much more convenient than, for example, for me to type "blogs.savingadvice.com" into the URL.

Speaking of blogs, I noticed that they are much more ad-heavy now (whereas the forums appear less so). However, I understand the nature of ads needed to defray the cost of maintenance. Besides, how else am I going to know that Aquaman is married to one of the Cosby kids?

Otherwise, everything else feels about the same to me.

Edit: This is only my personal opinion, but I do not favor any sub-forums. Unless it serves a purpose, I think it would fragment the message board too much. However, I don't suppose it would hurt me too much as I typically use the "new posts" link anyway.

Oh yes! This I miss this. The tabs at the top are missing. I should be able to click back to the blogs from the forums. I can do the opposite though click to the forums from the blogs.
