    Guess what I did today?

I returned a movie (DVD rental) late. It costs $1.50 to rent movies from this Mom & Pop video rental place in my town and we typically get about 2 a month so it's a good deal for our entertainment dollar. However, when you fail to return it, the late fee adds daily, so that when I returned this movie, it cost $4.50!

    So I say again... Arrrrggghh!

It's a small amount of money and I've had to spend more on both expected and unexpected things pretty much each month but this one annoys me death because it was just a matter of forgetting that we had the movie and not getting it back. It won't happen again because now I am going to take back movies the next day, every time.

But I wondered, do things like this bother others? What's the last annoying (not necessary like a medical or auto expense) expense you incurred that you wish you had avoided?

I ordered something from QVC that was too long, and I had to pay about $7 to send it back and insure it! I don't rent movies anymore either.

i hate when this happens to me too. that is why i am joined netflix/blockbuster one movie/dvd at a time rental. it is only about $10 a month and you can keep the movie as long as you like. you don't pay for postage and it saves you a trip to the rental store. the only catch is that you have to have computer access. those late fees will drive you crazy.

let me tell you about this little episode i had when i was in college. i was a member of blockbuster. i had rented 2 video games over the xmas break. well, i decided to go home for the break and return to college after new years. i asked my friend that lived next door to take the games back for me. he said ok and took the games back. a few weeks later i get a message from blockbuster that the games had not been returned. i asked my friend if he took them back and he said yes. so i called blockbuster to see what the deal was, and they said the blockbuster cases had not been turned in with the games. i could not believe that crap. i had to look everywhere for those cases. i found them behind the entertainment center. they would not come down off of the late fee charge either. it ended up costing me about $50, and i did not even have the games to play. they were at the freaking store. i just had the stupid blockbuster cases. i was furious and still get mad thinking about it.

I do everything possible to avoid bank fees. (monthly minimum, etc.)
I hate it when I forget an upcoming birthday and end up paying more for a gift because I failed to plan ahead.

Back in the work outside the home days, I think Blockbuster posted wanted posters on me...It was so frustrating as we live appx 15 miles from town, so if I forgot a movie, it was not possible to just run home at lunch...argh.

Now I very rarely rent movies.

Fees I don't like to pay but don't mind paying if they come up: Library fees. I always look at this as a donation to a good cause!

          Re: Arrrrgghh!

I have heard a lot of Blockbuster horror stories.

As for Netflix, et. al., I come out better getting from this little local place at 1.50 ea. (provided that I don't have late fees!) With tax and all I can get 2 movies a month for $3.21 and the place is on the way to and from my house so its no extra fuel spent.

Certainly, if someone didn't have a place like this or watched more movies per month, then Netflix is a good option.

Not only that, but the library here (and most elsewhere I suppose) rents movies. I don't think they call it renting but they have a $1 fee per movie. What's more, they offer a movie card that you buy for $10 and it gives you 14 punch marks each good for one movie AND on Tuesdays you can get 2 movies for one punch mark.

My point being, the library is great because it is (obvious but not always recognized) a place with free access to books and periodicals and inexpensive movie 'rentals.' Very nice.

What really bothers me is when i have to go back to the doctor's for a 'follow-up' visit which often i question whether it's really necessary, and then you have to pay the $15 co-pay a 2nd time.

I apparently have lyme disease (the blood test came back negative) and am doing the antibiotics for 3 weeks, but what she told me at the followup wasn't anything she hadn't already told me on the phone. Oh well.

I refuse to join BB because, if you read the fine print, you have to give them a debt card/CC number and they are free to charge it when you 'brake' their rules....they don't even have to ask you first! I can't handle that! What if someone used my name to rent a movie...I don't have kids, but if I did, what if they rented without my permission!! Nope, won't do it. So if I have to see a movie. I use PPV with Direct TV. It's a little more than a new release at BB, but I use it maybe twice a year....Not big on paying to watch TV when I have over 100 channels....certainly I can find something.....if not I can turn it off and find something else to do!

Went over our minutes on the cell phone this month. 65 minutes * 45c/min. About $30 in overage. Argh.

We have pretty much gone through the good films at the local library. Block Buster is not a happening place. NetFlix is so much easier and less expensive. I never have to leave home and I just place the darn things in the mail and wait for my new films on the list. Apparently NetFlix has 60000 titles so I don't think I'll go through them all any time soon!

Fern I am sorry to hear that you have Lyme disease. I have had it three times. I guess you are taking doxycyclin!

Got a dentist bill for $85 . Called and left message to call me, they called back, I forgot to call. Well, I was trying to save the 39 cents in postage by paying over the phone. It slipped my mind, and the next month I got a bill for 86.53. Now, I know 1.53 isn't much, but if I hadn't been trying to save 39 cents I wouldn't have paid the 1.53.

I now have a deal with the office-they can charge my debit card the amount after insurance up to a "not to exceed" amount that I set at the visit.
