Has anyone else noticed that you can get cheaper car insurance if you change every 2-5 years? I switch between geico and progressive as they are the cheapest for me. From what i have read is they give you a cheaper rate to get you to switch and then slowly raise it over time.

For example progressive wants $417 for 6 months and geico wants $245 for the same coverage amounts. (not counting the covid discounts) i have even called them and they will not drop the price and like to point out that i have accident forgiveness.

statefarm, allstate etc are the highest for me they quoted me $746.

I do think checking rates every couple of years is a good idea. As you said, companies will sometimes give new customers a discount. Also, the algorithms each company use differ and change from time to time. It's also important to shop around if you have any incidents on your history (ticket or accident) as those dings age off your record, you get a new vehicle, or anything else changes in your situation.

I've been lucky with no incidents (knock on wood).
