I do a lot (A LOT!) of medical surveys. Most are online. Some are via phone. Some are in person.
I was scheduled for a phone survey today at 7:15pm. I was all set and ready, sitting at my desk waiting for 7:15. No call came. Then 7:20 still no call. At 7:25 I emailed them to check in. I got a reply that they would be calling shortly, they'd still be sure to finish on time, and I'd still get paid. I kept waiting and finally, at 7:40, my phone rang.
The caller said he had good news. They had double-booked to avoid open spots in the schedule and I was the extra person tonight. There would be no interview (a 60-minute interview by the way) and I'd still get my $200 honorarium.
In all the years I've been doing this, this is the first time that ever happened. So $200 for just waiting around for an interview that never happened. I can deal with that.
