  • Grocery Items this first week of April....

How well are the grocery store shelves stocked in your area? I have noticed things are easing up a little bit.

But, I have decided "just in time" shopping isn't the best strategy these days. (I live in Northern VA)

I use a particular OTC medication from time to time and I noticed that I had 1 more tablet (in a bottle) left. I started looking for the item online. Amazon had the item for $50.00. I actually found the item in a store after looking for a about a week (and we went to 3 stores yesterday)! The store price was 19.79.

I haven't seen many paper products and cleaning products in several weeks. Generally everything is cleared out.

I was able to buy Clorox Wipes by getting to the store before opening and lining up (6 am on a Sunday morning) a couple of weeks ago. I haven't seen any since.

Other than that, we have been able to get most things. (I look forward to when paper products and cleaning products are well stocked in the stores. ) Are people really doing that much cleaning?

It's really hit or miss. It depends when you get to the store and when they last restocked. I went shopping about 10am yesterday and things were pretty well stocked. They were still out of some stuff but it was much better than the last time when I probably went around 3pm.

Our store is also limiting many items to 1 per person so that's probably helping.

It's hit or miss. In Alaska, we're largely reliant on shipping from CONUS, but since the logistical channels have not been interrupted at all, everything has continued to arrive. Alot of stuff was panic-bought, but is slowly getting restocked as more shipments arrive. I've only been buying things we actually need, vs. stocking up significantly. But most of the essentials (bread, milk, produce, meats, grains, beans, etc.) have been available. Perhaps just not the exact brand or size that you want.

In Los Angeles on 3/31/20 at Food 4 Less (calmer & not as frenzied as 2 or 3 weeks prior) no eggs (and no eggs for the previous 2 weeks prior). To limit exposure I don't go store to store. If no more, so be it. Two or three weeks ago at Smart & Final I was able to get some canned goods. They had signs limiting 2 of meats, 2 of soups, 2 of fruits, and 2 of veggies which I thought is good and prevents hoard buying. I haven't checked on toilet paper since I had bought prior to the frenzy 1 package consisting of 12 rolls and still have ample rolls.

It really is hit or miss depending on your location.
In my nearby stores they have almost everything back except paper products only get about half the aisle back and it is gone quickly. We did not stock up during the first frenzy and were down to only a roll or two left so i bought when i came across it and DH found a packageat another store he grabbed so now we are set probably for months . My local area was never out of some items that others around the country have said they were out of.
I heard from friend in another city (in the state) they were out of butter for example but both stores i visit were full on the shelves.
The stores have limits on paper products when in stock and had a limit of 2 on eggs put as they have maintained their regular supply on those. the places do look a bit more shopped then normal and one store was out of about 75% of the pasta aisle. Different locations put signs up on items that had a run on them like rice and chili but i noticed they are taken down now.
I know a few store workers and they keep things like hand sanitizer and some paper items to put out on senior days.

cleaning supplies are still in short supply around here. Guess its a good thing I normally shop at costco and get bulk.

Shopping for food type groceries aren't bad now. Appears the hoarders are all fully stocked, so it's readily available at grocery stores. Also most stores seem to have instituted limits on milk, eggs, rice, beans, whatever people are attempting to hoard so help limit people's stupidity.

For some reason certain things like pasta and soup stock is always low or out of stock. No doubt stockpiled by idiots that previously cooked once or twice a year.
