There are many threads asking about or suggesting selling things that you don't want or need any more. I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread where we can share actual results we're getting when selling on those sites.

Since March just ended, I'll start us off by summarizing my March sales.

I sold 6 items on ebay in March totaling $86.73 (before fees).
    I sold 1 item on half.com for $3.16.

Who else has something to share?

Nice profits. I'm curious how long your holding time was on those items. If it was fairly short, how do you buy them at such a deep discount to market value? Or is it from buying when the value was lower and holding onto them until the value rose?

when I moved, I put the kids' air hockey table on CL for $75 and got it.

pure profit because I had bought it at a good price from BJs but the electrical system never worked. They kept mailing me parts, no one could get the electrical to work because they always sent parts from a different model. Disgusted, I wrote a letter to the CEO, he sent me a check for $250 and said keep the table. That was more than I paid for it, it worked without the electrical and eventually an engineer friend rigged up the electrical part so it worked in the end.

In all, I made $150 on that table in profit and lots in kid fun

that was my best CL deal, I have to get better at selling and not donating every single thing just to get it out of the house.

              Between eBay & Craigslist, I'd estimate that I had sold about $600 worth of junks over time. These were some items I recall off the top of my head;

              CL

              7' - 9" Pyzel surfboard $60
              6' - 6" Christianson surfboard $100
              folding camping cot, $20
truck rear end gears, gave away free
New Casio illuminator (two received as gifts), used Citizen quartz, $5, $5, $15
              computer tower (windows 7), $75
              19" LCD monitor, $25
              Core i5 2500K processor, $100 (bought for $160)
              wetsuit, $20, $10, $25
              Dewalt drywall screw gun, $25

eBay (100% positive rating out of 74 reviews)

              iPhone 4S, $140
              computer RAM memory modules, $10, $10, $25
Kodak 5 mp digital camera, $30
              mini voice tape recorder, $8
broken laptop (without hard drive, no RAM), $25
              Jabra Bluetooth headset, .99 cents
clothing new with tags, $5, $10
2 wire AT & T wireless modem, $5 (buyer filed a broken claim so I reimbursed his purchase and $8 shipping, it wasn't broken when I had it but hey stuff happens, I understand)

If we go back in time, I've sold tens of thousands of dollars worth of stuff on ebay but I meant for the thread to focus on current sales just to show what people are actually achieving today by using these sites.

The advice to sell some stuff online often gets thrown out in our conversations. I think a lot of people doubt if that option is really worth doing. By sharing our recent sales experiences, maybe we can encourage others to take the plunge and start selling unwanted items to generate some cash for more important things like debt reduction and savings.

And turn right around and resell it for $60? That's a great deal. I love when someone identifies that kind of market and is able to take advantage of it. Chances are the person who pays $60 has the same access to the item for $20 that you do but just doesn't realize it.

I do all my selling on CL. I have around 50 meet ups so far within the past 6 months. My best so far this year was someone at work was throwing away a touch screen all in one desktop...they wanted it recycled. I threw a fresh copy of windows 7 on it and sold it for $200. That was straight profit.

I also buy/sell a lot of software. I wont go into specifics just for the fact that no one else seems to be doing it in my area and I would rather not give up my honey hole...but whatever I spend on each copy of software I sell and double or triple my return. So far this year ive made $1100. I still have a couple copies left...when all is said and done ill be pushing $1500 profit.

I recently purchased $3000 in weight equipment. After selling some of the pieces/dumbbells off along with the software, older laptops I had laying around and an older projector ive recouped the $3000 and now im about $400 in the black. My original goal was to acquire all the fitness equipment for $0.00 so im happy.

A lot of times when I buy something that really isnt necessary and more of a hobby I look at the big picture and try to figure out a way to sell something to offset the cost. Its almost become a game at this point.

this is why i look at selling on ebay as fishing and a hobby, gotta get the right fish to bite then reel him in, if tgere are 2 fish going for your line then your in business, not every bar i put up there fetches $60 but im happy with an average of $30-$35

I sold an old Game Boy game on eBay today for $21.50. That brings my total since March 1 to $111.39.

ETA: I also sold another book on half.com for $4 so the total is $115.39.

I recently sold a Southwest 4 drink coupon on eBay for $16.50. Started the price at .99 cents and people bid up the price to $16.50.

I'm currently selling a broken Invicta pro divers watch on eBay for $9.99, it currently has one bidder. At first I thought of throwing it away but figured on trying eBay first, luckily I tried eBay first before tossing it out. It's amazing the someone is wanting to buy a broken watch.

Broken watches can be fixed. Or someone who fixes watches may be able to use it for parts.
