Anyone do garage saling purely to resell?

With spring garage sales coming up, just curious if anyone here trolls them with the intent of looking for gens and reselling on ebay or CL. We have quite a few garage sales in my county, and you can spend a whole day driving around, and even finding ones that people don't bother advertising.

i did it for a little bit and made a few bucks on some stuff, mostly scoured for levi's and tools but i did run across 5 brand new in the box ceiling fans that i snagged for $5 each and sold for $55 each

I used to. From about 1998 until about 2001 or so I was a big eBay seller. I had 100 auctions running at all times. Almost every Saturday I was out at yard sales and flea markets shopping. I also made the rounds of the thrift shops and had a couple of auctions that I went to regularly.

It is much harder today because eBay and PayPal fees are a lot higher as is postage so you need to find even better deals to make a decent profit.

The best thing to do is to go trash picking later in the day after the sales. A lot of people put whatever didn't sell out to the curb. You can pick up some great stuff totally free.

I wouldn't go specifically to find resale things, but I wouldn't pass up an opportunity. I found very few things that way. There are a lot of pros in my area that pick the good stuff as soon as you open your garage, or sooner. They are so aggressive that they take the fun out of it, and I really almost got into a fist fight with a man the last time I had a sale, so no more for me. Of course, now my sister is trying to talk me into having another one. I might. I have enough stuff for it.

I had better luck buying things off Craigslist and Ebay for resale. I have also had some good luck with just buying what I liked and selling it a few years later for more when I got sick of looking at it.

Yes, if you want to do this seriously you need to be the early bird. If a sale was advertised to start at 9am, I would often get there around 7 or 7:30 when they were starting to set up. The good stuff is gone by 9.

Well, I prefer to give a fresh look to the old things...
I adore refurbishing my grandma furniture, especially bureau, my own dresses that I wore just a few times and they are already out of the fashion,,,
