I was a junior in college (10 years ago), and an instructor sat down with me & some friends one night to teach us about saving, investing, and retirement. Gratefully, I was in good shape already, with no debt, a small pot of savings (<$10k), and attending school on a generous scholarship. I took his advice to heart, started a Roth IRA, set up an emergency fund, created a budget (a college student's budget is pretty laughable, BTW), and all of that jazz.

However, in order for me to do all of that, I had to start learning, and to answer all of my multitudinous questions, I found this site (again, probably via a google search... my best bet would be the old online savings account rates thread that Poundwise used to maintain).

Over time, I've come to love personal finance, and happily discuss it with folks here or "in real life". As Steve said, it's great to have a place to discuss finances with people who understand and appreciate my interest in it.

I would say I'm here out of a bit of anxiety. While I have no financial problems, and think I'm generally a pretty decent financial manager, I nonetheless worry about the future. I'm a bit of a "worry wart" in general, so money is just one of many things. I also grew up working class, and just don't want that for my future, so maybe that's a source of anxiety.

I think I founds this site because I was generally interested in finances and wanted to share some of my advice..but turned out that this forum ends up being full of experts!

Got to say I learned a lot from you guys..such as the snowball method(which mathematically sounds ridiculous to me until I learned that it help treats the behavioral problem of getting into debt).

From all your help, I have used what I learned and started my own financial class for all these students coming in and out of my hospital.

Also I enjoy some of our heated debates since I'm so bored at work

I came here about 4 years prior to retirement just trying to make sure my plans were in order. I spent a lot of time modeling finances and income streams. I wanted to make sure I hadn't overlooked anything because it is very difficult to un-retire.

I was also focused on reducing unnecessary expenses. I have picked up a lot of tips from this board.

It's been almost 5 years since I retired and I still hang out here. I still learn new things.

I don't really remember how I stumbled upon this site. I was probably searching for the answer to some financial question that I had via Google.

Put me in the camp of people that have always had things together. But, I've learned countless things on this site. There are too many people to thank that have given guidance and advice over the years.

It is fun to discuss money matters, and sometimes useful to ask advice from like minded (or different minded ) people.

Money is still somewhat a taboo subject, so people can't always discuss it with friends or co-workers as openly.

my financial picture was far from perfect but I was on track to retire at 55. Then at 45 i got really sick and could no longer work. This threw me into a tailspin as I loved my job and stupidly, had never really thought through that something can happen to you at any time to make that job an impossibility.

So I came to learn more about how to live on less, a lot less. I'm learning but I have a ways to go.

Since a kid Ive always been a bit more frugal than my friends has to do a lot with my mother teaching me her ways. So yea I started a blog to try and help others learn how to save money and eventually try to make their money work for them.

                        I call it 7Figures.org

It will be all about my journey to reaching 7 figures. Plus articles I find helpful to maintain healthy finances. I'm very far from my goal. I'm only 25 years old and I already dabble in the stock market and learning day by day. However I'm always willing to learn more.
