  • Big Lots Hack

I was in Big Lots last night. It's basically a dollar style store that sells a little bit of everything. I think they are called Odd Lots in some parts of the country.

The cashier told me that if I sign up for the rewards program I will get a $5 credit to use on anything in the store for every 3 purchases that I make.
The interesting thing is that there is no dollar limit to receive the $5 coupon.
The only stipulation is that the purchases have to be made on different days.
But, she said I could come in every day and buy a 50 cent pack of gum, and after the 3rd pack of gum I would have a $5 coupon in my email.
    Kind of interesting.

When you said “hack” I thought you meant a data breech, like their system was hacked.

This is pretty neat though. I don’t shop there but might check it out.

I looked into this. You do get a $5 reward for every 3 purchases but it's $5 off a $15 purchase, not just a straight $5 off. So if you go in 3 days in a row and buy one item each time, you would then get a coupon for $5 off a $15 purchase.

        That makes more sense.
The cashier didn't even know how their own rewards program works I guess.

        Still not a bad deal.
I'll take $5 off $15 if I only have to spend a couple dollars to get it. 33% off isn't bad.

If you can find a few small things that you need, it's fine I guess, especially if the store is conveniently located for you. The nearest one to me isn't really in a place that I pass regularly so I'd have to make a special trip. Not worth it for the small savings. Online purchases do count too, so you don't even have to go in physically, though you probably can't just buy little things that way due to shipping costs.
