  • Protection/Insurance for Vanguard account?

    Hello,

    This may be a stupid question, and hopefully I ask it right, but is there any insurance or protection that guarantees I won't lose all of the money I have invested in my Roth IRA? Im not talking about normal market losses, but more so things that cannot be planned for. For example, Vanguard goes belly-up, the government passes a new law, etc.,etc. I'm still early on in my savings, but don't want to save for another 20+ years and then all of a sudden lose everything from something that was out of my control.

    Here's a good article that explains it better than I can. Basically, Vanguard can't go bankrupt because it isn't a single entity. Unless the value of every stock and bond it holds dropped to zero, you're fine, and if that happens, it wouldn't matter where your money was. The apocalypse would be upon us.

      Really not something to worry about. You could also be struck by a meteorite.
