  • Virtual account number

When making purchases online does anyone use a virtual account number such as the one used by this credit card company. It creates a one time use only virtual card number which is used in place of the real card number.

Many cards have stopped issuing virtual numbers.

I have a single card I use for all online purchases & routine bills. Have not had a problem yet but would spot it IMMEDIATLY if there was one.

Started that back when late DH & I shared cards. He could NEVER remember what he charged or where.

I'm not really sure that these virtual numbers serve any purpose. There are so many reports of cards/accounts being hacked through data breaches that have nothing to do with actual usage of the card.

We had fraudulent use of a credit card that we had never actually used. It never left our house. We never made a single purchase with the card. Still, the info somehow got hacked.

And just last week, one of our Chase cards got fraudulent activity. I have no idea how they got into the account but it's a card we use actively so it could have happened anywhere or, like the other card, it could have had nothing to do with our use of the card. Some database somewhere could have been breached.
