  • Has anyone used the free credit freezes?

I read somewhere that legislation passed for free credit freezes this September 2018. Does that apply to unfreezes as well? Thus far I have paid $90, first to freeze all 3 credit bureaus, unfroze it all due to taking out a new car loan recently, and refreezing it all again ($30 x $30 x $30 = $90). This was all before the September 2018 legislation which now I believe should be free. Can someone confirm this?

Freezes are now 100% free. I'm going to be doing it for my entire family. Link below, from the horse's mouth.
Free credit freezes and year-long fraud alerts are here, starting September 21st, thanks to a new federal law.

I had to lift both of our credit freezes when opening the Ally account. I didn't know there wasn't a fee and nothing was said about it, but I wasn't charged. I applied for the account in August. Not sure of the date but my email stating they received my deposit was dated Aug 27th. But there were problems and it might be possible that we called the credit agencies on Sept 1st.

I'm pretty sure that the law only went into effect last week, around the 21st I think. Though it may be that the credit agencies implemented ahead of the law coming into effect...
