With our Amana, the only gripe I have worth mentioning is the ice maker.
It is the kind that has a tray that fills with water, and fingers that rotate and dump the ice cubes into a bin. The non-stick material eventually gives way and ends up in the ice cubes, and the arm can get held down by a frozen dinner and burn the motor out as it tries to lift. Fortunately, the ice maker is easy to replace, and I've done it twice since we got the fridge 14 years ago.

We've had it installed for about a week now and so far so good. It does have an energy star rating that's much better than our previous refrigerator which was 10+ years old and the freezer had went out on it. I'm amazed at how much more space the french doors provide.
We looked at a Samsung before deciding and the employee suggested whirlpool since it would be easier to get parts if needed. We don't have a water dispenser but that wasn't important to us.
