Brake pads last an average of about 50,000 miles. Could be more or less depending on the type of driving you do but let's go with 50,000. If you drive an average of 12,000 miles/year, that means replacing brakes about 7 times in 30 years. Where are you getting your brakes replaced for under $72 each time?
You buy your brakes online when they have 50 off 125 from discount autoparts http://slickdeals.net/f/7589642-adva...-75-40-off-100..and you get someone to change it for you for 50 bucks. In fact we changed out some brakes on a mercedes for 125..you can do a lot less on a honda.

Also you can stretch out and get more usage out of those brakes depending on how you drive. If you are frugal like this, you should be cruising to a stop anyways. This will get you additional 20k miles out of them. Also we shouldn't assume 12k/year of driving. Your work is close to you and you should barely use the car anyways.
