Good question.
Wish I knew a cheaper alternative; right now; Office Depot. Tried online with off brand printer ink, but found they short-changed me on amount of ink in cartridge.
Got laser printer cartridges from Dell, but doubt I saved anything.
We have a place in toown called cartridge world, ink is about half price since I am supplying the cartridges. I use Walmart for paper unless I have a staples coupon. On line seems to be about the same when you factor in the shipping costs, at lease for the few sites I have looked at.
My family buys almost all of that stuff in bulk at Sams Club or Costco. We buy the ink refill kit that only costs $17 and it gets us a LONG way. We also have a laser printer which definitely is more cost effective than an inkjet. Espescially since I got the printer for free from work.
i buy paper for the printer at staples, usually. Staples is close to where I live and they have big packs of paper so I don't have to worry about running out, and usually there's some kind of sale or promotion.
i've bought ink at staples before in the color/black twin packs, and also there's a website,it's called mrinkman.com
you can check on the site to see if they have ink for your kind of printer/cartridge-- if you're not in a hurry this is great-- you pay for a re-filled ink cartridge online, they mail you a postage paid envelope to mail them your empty ink cartridge, then they mail you a refilled cartridge back.
Last time I did this I think I paid $16 for a black cartridge which was usually $25-27.
Currently we have an HP PSC (Print/Scan/Copy) 1510 that we bought from newegg.com which had better prices on that model than Best Buy, Staples, etc. We just bought that a couple months ago, sadly their ink is not on that refill website, so we bought a twinpack of cartridges at Bestbuy when we were there today.
My hubby buys all our stuff at our local computer markets. WE have a canon printer. The proper cartridges are $36.00. At the market they are $5.00 for the generic equivalent. We have not found a difference in the quality.
Paper, well I have not bought in years because the company I worked for went out of business and I was given the computer paper, but ink I buy at BrandsMart USA
When it comes to cost to operate, a basic laser printer is much less expensive than any inkjet. Of course, you don't have color. (Unless you have a color laser and then you are back to $ for operating costs.)
For inkjet, I like sites like PrintPal. Good cartridges, cheap pricing, and this link will give you 10% off and free shipping.
