  • How much do you spend on Valentine's Day?

I find that Valentine's Day is one of those holidays where people either spend a lot of money or don't spend any money at all. What do you usually do for Valentine's Day and how much does it cost you? I must admit that I do most of my spending for the holiday the day after when I can buy some of my favorite premium chocolate at a 50% discount or more.

I'm not sure what I'm doing this year. It depends on our schedules. At the least, a nice dinner and a small gift of some sort. Probably less than $100 though.

We never do much. We were just saying we may pick up a dinner for the whole family and eat at home.

We don't spend on Valentine's Day. DH and I exchange free e-cards. On very rare occasions DH might buy flowers on the 15th when they are all deeply discounted.

I will make contributions to my niece & nephew's 529 college savings plans.

DH may buy a box of chocolates for me after they go on clearance after Valentine's Day.

            Nothing. We don't participate.

I've been picking up kid valentine cards the day after for the last several years, for classroom exchanges. But the kids are getting old enough that I will probably skip that this year.

We spend nothing. It isn't a holiday that we observe.

              * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
              * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
              * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

My husband and I usually have a special meal at home. It's usually something a little pricier that we wouldn't usually do, like lobster tails or sushi. Sometimes we just pick the nicest thing that's been sitting in the freezer waiting for a special occasion. We tend to exchange store bought cards too.

I like to have something to tell people about when asked what I'm doing for Valentine's Day. I am much more comfortable talking about a nice meal than I am at defending letting my husband "get away" with not doing anything.

I'm not a huge fan of chocolate, but I do keep my eyes open for heart-shaped strawberry Peeps on sale after the holiday. They're not particularly expensive even before the holiday, but there's something really satisfying about paying less than a dollar for a box of sugar coated marshmallows.

This year we will be in SE Asia and likely have no Valentine acknowledgement. Thanks for the head's up, I'll try to find something special. Typically I make a special dinner and a dessert that includes strawberries. I use red cinnamon hearts to make spiced apple slices and add zing to strawberries because our very 1st date concluded with a strawberry dessert. DH often buys a card and buys some small, token item that he knows I'll cherish.

Very little. There haven't been many years where I have had the opportunity to spend much on this holiday, and even if I did, I think I would (at least these days) opt for a frugal Valentine's Day.

I usually don't spend a lot on Valentine's Day, what I do is, I just create some personalized stuff wherein all materials came from left off things from work, school, etc. I'm pretty good in doing it.

We avoid going out on Valentines day because its gonna be a zoo at any decent restaurant... Now that we have kids, Valentines day is pretty uneventful. Luckily my wife is not into jewelry either, because IMO the stuff is a complete waste of $. She appreciates flowers from time to time though but doesn't appreciate the predictability of receiving them on Valentines Day.

To answer the question, usually zero.
