  • Xmas presents that save money

What are some quality xmas presents you give (or have received in the past) that actually save the recipient money?

For example, my sister in the winter always took 2 showers. One in the morning, and then one at night because her feet were cold and she couldn't sleep if they were cold. So she warmed them by taking a shower. I bought her a foot pool massager which allowed the water in the pool to be heated. She loved the gift and warmed her feet each night with the new gift instead of taking the shower saving money on water and gas for heating the water each night.

One of my favourite gifts are the programable thermostats. I always offer to help change out their existing unit. The senior ladies who live in this complex see a professional manicure/pedicure as a really big splurge. I've bought several certificates on special, Groupon pricing days saving both of us huge $$$. I'd like to think buying subscriptions to Kiplinger's magazine created savings for the recipient if they bothered to read the excellent suggestions. A couple of years ago I bought both DSIL and a friend Bread Machines they said they wanted. DSIL makes bread and rolls regularly which cost 80% less than those from the bakery.

This year I've bought DSIL a receipt scanner and hope she'll use it. It means she will be able to locate receipts which allow her to return items. The stores are good about returns provided you have the receipt.
