Can someone provide insights on annuities in an easy to understand concept. There are deferred variable annuities, fixed deferred annuities, or guaranteed lifetime withdrawl benefits, etc. Can I open an annuity online (like a stock brokerage account such as Scottrade, Fidelity, Schwab, etc.) or do I need to sit down with an agent. Doing it online would be my preference to avoid any pressure. I have $20,000 to invest, is this enough, not enough, ludicrous, etc.
