  • $150,000 Sweet 16 Party -- Unbelievable

I read this and my mouth is still gaping wide open. You will shake your head the whole time you read this article.

    Welcome To Marrisa's World

    This is how it ends:

"I know that this party cost over $150,000," Marissa says on the show. "My daddy likes to spoil me, so he thinks I'm worth it."

A few days later, after the phone has stopped ringing with congrats ("She looked so cute") or consolation ("We know Marissa's not really like that"), after Marc has endured countless comments in the vein of "will you be my daddy?" K.K. explains: "I know that over-the-top is the best description, and I know a lot of people look on it negatively.

"But we knew it when we went into it, and we all had a great time. And it will be a memory Marissa will have for the rest of her life."

Any comment about "entitlement" here. Tell me what is she going to "expect" when she turns 18? What does that teach her about money? Does money buy love? Has she ever really had to work in her life? Does she understand the value of a dollar? Does she realize the opportunity cost of the 150K?

This parent is doing their child a HUGE disservice and making her a burden on society. IMHO

This was just one episode of MTV's series "My Super Sweet Sixteen." The show is in its third season and every single episode documents a sweet 16 or sweet 15 party that usually costs at least $100,000. Sad to say, I actually seen many of the episodes. The majority of the people on the show are completely stuck up, control their parents, rude to everyone, get what they want, dress inappropriately....must I continue? In almost EVERY episode the child gets a brand new car. The child usually doesn't care what it costs, as long as they get it.

Edited because I think I was mistaken on that last part. Will update again if I was correct.

I don't have children yet, but I hope I teach them that there are more important things in life than things. We live in such a materialistic, gimme-gimme-gimme society.

You can't blame the kids for controlling the parents; the parents are the ones who have relinquished control! They're the ones who can't or won't say no. That's just as bad.

LOL!...we got invited to a lunch for my niece's 17 this weekend (only family) and, she chose Benihana's....SHE almost had a heart attack when she saw it cost $134...she felt bad that it had been so expensive...
True, it was not her Sweet 15....which her father paid for, so I don't know what it cost....

                  Re: $150,000 Sweet 16 Party -- Unbelievable

I saw part of that show on MTV while I was at the gym, but with a girl out in california some where. She had went with her father to go look at cars, and ended up deciding on a Land Rover- Very necessary for a 16 year old in L.A.! They had picked out the car, then she lied about where she was going (and went to another city over night to go shopping, after her parents had already said no) and when she came back she was surprised that they were withholding her car as punishment! She said something like "they better give me my Land Rover or I will hate them forever."

This was after she had bought a $15,000 dress, for her party. And she also hand selected like 4 topless tan dudes to carry her out for a grand entrance at her party.

My boyfriend and I were next to eachother on elliptical machines, and it was all on closed caption but we kept looking at eachother and saying "what!????"

How is any of that necessary? She was such a spoiled brat.

abowers: You left off that her mom cut off her credit card. Hehe...she called the company to see what the last 5 charges were and then cut it off. And the girl acted sooo surprised when she went to pay for something and her card wasn't accepted. It was actually quite funny.

                        I can only imagine.

How sad that these kids greatest (and seemingly only) life lesson is how to manipulate their parents into getting what they want...what kind of life skill is that?

I am glad Im living on this side of the fence.

My children did not wear designer anything, but they could explain and demonstrate 'compassion' in great detail by the time they were 10.

Yuck! I'm glad these aren't my kids.

Although I wouldn't mind having their parents money...

It is amazing how TV is really not worth watching. Putting spoiled little creeps on tht air is ridiculous. Then again most of what is on TV these days is pretty crappy.

You know I watch MTV's Sweet 16 and it is anything but sweet. These girls and guys are spoiled rotten and the parents spend tons of money on these parties and for what & who. I think it is more of " I have the money so then I can do" Wow, I don't know if I had the money I doubt I would spend over 5000 grand for a party and that is too much
