  • Professional indemnity insurance

I've been given professional tax advice that I'm not 100% sure about and don't want it to come back and bite me in 30 years.

Is there any way to find out what professional indemnity insurance an advisor has without asking directly and hence insulting them? And what happens re the insurance in say 40 years time when the advisor has passed away and then the tax authorities decide that he was wrong?

If you're that concerned that the advice may be wrong, I'd seek a second opinion. There are also many tax-knowledgeable people right here so if you post your situation, they can weigh in and you can see if they agree with the info your tax pro is giving you.

I've been travelling for 5 years over 40 countries and apart from Australia 4 years ago, I don't think I've satisfied tax residency requirements anywhere.

I've not spent more than 2 months per year anywhere other than Thailand, but I know I've not fulfilled the Thai tax residency criteria.

The advisor told me I'm resident of nowhere, which is what I wanted to hear, but I don't want what I want to hear if the advice is incorrect!

Do you forumites think I'm resident of nowhere also?

I'd suggest starting this as a new thread with an appropriate title like "Tax residency question" or something like that. You probably won't get answers here because of the original title.
