So I want a way to monitor my credit score. I have just recently payed off tons of credit card debt. I have read a few things here and there on the forum about myfico.com. Is it worth the $19.95 per month for the credit monitoring for all 3 bureaus? Has anyone had any experience with this site or the monthly monitoring?

    Sometimes the best is Free

I tend to think of them as scams. People start off paying the $19.95/m and then forget about them. Before you know it you have a reoccurring fee that builds up (1 year = $240). Capitalone offers free TransUnion Credit Score if you have a credit card through them. Also CreditKarma offers free credit reports. Also the government offers AnnualCreditReport.com that allows you to federally pull your reports from each agency once a year. Each credit agency trys to get you to buy the score but opt out.

Why do you need to monitor your credit score so closely? $20/month is a lot of money. Are you anticipating borrowing a large sum of money in the near future, like a mortgage?

The only reason to monitor the credit reports that closely is if you are a victim of credit fraud.

If you are trying to improve your credit score, then the best thing you can do is just pay your bills on time.

Totally not worth it at all. I monitor my credit score through credit karma to get a general idea and pull my credit report once a year through annual credit report.com

Also have monitoring through Target as they offered it for free for a year.

I only check my FICO score occasionally. I think it is far better to make sure you make you take care of your bills on a timely basis. I just recently bought a car and found out my FICO score is 885 and my wife had a 879. The FICO score is the result acting financially responsible. The FICO score reflects your credit over time, that is why older credit cards have more impact than newer ones.

Discover gives a credit score. Anyone can get their credit report for free 3 times per year (once from each bureau).

I use creditkarma but have read on these forums that it tends not to be greatly accurate. I don't plan on making any purchases in the future unless they involve cash. This is all I needed though, won't waste money on it, thanks for the replies.

Interesting, I was just out on discover.com and I only get one number (841). I do paperless billing so I dont know how paper statements differ.

I could not find the numbers from all three bureaus on the website
