My mom would alway give us a good breakfast.
So, when I wake up in the morning, I am always hungry. Doesn't matter if I had a huge meal before I went to sleep. So the breakfast is my lagrest meal.
My dh didn't have a habbit to have a breakfast in the morning. So after we got married, I always would get up before he goes to work to make him breakfast. He leaves house at 6 am. So, emagine what time I have to get up.
I always pack his lanch too. If he is too lazy to do it, I will do it, so he wouldn't have to spend any money on luch. Or even worse, stay hungry untill he gets home. Being hungry is very unhealthy, it makes you overeat on you next meal. Plus when you are hungry lots of times, your metabolism slowes down.
We eat about 6-10 times a day, but small meals mostly. No wonder we are all skinny, even though we eat a lot. Good for health, but kind of not good for the food budget.

We were so poor, I saw my mother go years without buying herself anything. I guess that is why I never needed to have lots of "stuff" I think I learned how to make do, from my mother.

Re: what healthy habits did you learn from your mom?

I grew up in the time when the word "whatever" was real big. So, I tended to let the word slip sometimes, even when talking to my mom. She would always say the following: "It's not whatever, it's what's right." It just always stuck and now, of course, I realize she's right.

She taught me to keep my room clean. However, I have to say that she taught me that I NEED to keep my room clean, but I can't say that I actually keep it clean.

Since my dad is a minister (and of course it rubbed off on my mom), she taught me the first thing to do when you have a need is pray, believe, then take the neccessary steps to get your need met.

She taught me tithe, to plan, to respect others, to be independent, to be hardworking, to not be lazy, to be frugle, to always be on time (on time meaning at least 10-15 minutes early), to wake up early, to not care what others think, and to not do things because everyone else is doing it.

She's definitely taught me more...but, that's all I can think of at the moment.

                Wash your hands.

Work hard and don't take what is not yours.

Never look down on anyone but to offer him a hand up!

Treat others as you would want to treated.

Always give your seat to a pregnant woman or someoone who is elderly or infirm.

Health is more than just a physical state of being. It is the makeup of a whole person.

My mom is prolly going to read this and be all upset, I suppose I can recall some good habits she had, but mainly the stuff that falls under 'healthnut' was picjed up after I left home.

Though I do recall a discussion when I was a kid about washing hands...

                      things to copy
                      - to be a bargain junkie. she used to wake me up as a kid and drag me to yard sales... now we always shop thrifty... yard sales, thrift stores, clearance, or online....
                      - like ima's mom, she went years before buying stuff she wanted, and i too am pretty low maintenance, which my DH is thankful for...
                      - she always used cash, which i always did until recently
                      - eat breakfast every day
                      - less clutter means less cleaning
                      - be generous with those less fortunate or even those more fortunate.... give them some home cooked food and you can nourish their bodies and souls...

                      things not to copy
                      - not saving for retirement (lucky dad has got a good plan)
                      - not being financially savvy other than being frugal
                      - not keeping track of the best prices of consumables so she won't be fooled by a "sale"
                      - being too concerned with appearance
                      - spent too much on trendy clothing
                      - waiting a long time in life to be frugal... at least she started me early... =)

i'm sure there's more but that's all i can think of...

never spend more than you earn
                        love people more than things
love is an action and it takes sacrifice its not some gooey feeling
lack of discipline and self control is the down fall of mankind
smile and enjoy life because nothing last forever

I never realized just how much my Mom taught me until I had grown kids and saw some of the things that they picked up (good and bad) without knowing they picked them up from me. It has made me much more careful to be conscious of what I am teaching DS2.

My mother never had a credit card or bought anything on credit in her life.
