  • A second job and overtime is it worth it?

Hi. I'm reading some blogs and there are some things that concern me due to my personal experience and those I have talked to. At one time I worked a full time and two part time jobs. I did this to get out of debt and I did however if someone would have given me a better understanding of finances and I would have sought the information I could of saved myself stress from owing the IRS (single and no deductions),time for family and myself..not to mention sleep. I have a homebased business because I wanted my own business, additional income but more importantly I got tired of being slaughtered by taxes. I did choose after doing some research to join a network marketing company. I understand it's not for everyone however understand all businesses do Network marketing. The cost of a traditional business is expensive And Typically You Don't See A Profit Until After 3 years. Most people work additional hours and still struggle. You have got to learn about managing your money Versus time. I M not immune and learned some very harsh lessons. Still coming out of some. I don't knock jobs I have one but when I'm sick or injured that's no income. Even with accidental insurance, etc. There is a waiting period. Just tired of seeing people work so hard just to pay bills and take from bills to enjoy life.

I think a good full-time job is worth it. With the right education, connections, and determination a decent paying job is attainable. I've tried a couple of times the whole MLM (Multi-Level-Marketing) after being in sales for nearly a decade. I realized I hate sales and don't like to treat my friends or family members as customers/recruits. It does work for some people though... And they make good money particularly if they got in at the innitial phase of a company.

There are pros and cons about working for yourself. What are some aspects of working for yourself that you've found to be good and others challenging?

I've considered getting a 2nd job. However, at this point with a young family it's not worth it.

I guess it's all about priorities.

I also think a full time job is far better than a part time job. It also has many possibilities of learning.

In my experience there is a trade off time or money. If you're willing to devote time to research, seek out the best value for your money for the myriad of regular expenses you can usually make up the difference of net income less costs from typical part time employment. People with special skill sets are an exception.

Agreed. I work in a field (healthcare) where my part time job pays me $30 an hour. Definitely worth it! But my husband, who is in the business field, isn't as easily able to find a part time job in his field. The only kinds of part time jobs in his field would maybe pay $12-$15 an hour, tops (even though we both make $70K in our full time jobs). So for him it would not be worth it. So while I am working an extra job, he gets kid duty He has always been great about helping with the boys, but he has stepped it up even more to make working 2 jobs easier on me.

So it depends on your circumstances - if getting a 2nd job meant having to pay for additional childcare, then it's probably not worth it. For me, it's totally worth it, especially knowing that I only plan on doing it for a few years.
