Mother's Day is Sunday, May 11th, what is your plan? Do your phone your mom?
Do you need to make reservations? Do you buy and send a card?

Damn that Anna Jarvis. I love my mom but hate supporting the overpriced greeting card industry.

I refuse to buy cards. They are a ridiculous amount of money for something that gets read and thrown away. My kids will make their grandmas a card with crayons and construction paper. We're camping for the weekend and my mom is coming to town to camp as well. We'll just have a campfire meal and spend the day together. Got 2 great bargains and spent $18 on her gift

I'm OLD. Both my mom & MIL are deceased.

I will be joining my kids & grands at DD1's place. They are bringing in lunch & making 2 of my fav deserts (choc flourless cake & lemon squares). I suspect the oldest 5 grands will make me cards (the youngest isn't even 1 y/o). I figure no gifts as my bday is in a month & we usually do a combo celebration.

I bought my mom $12 worth of assorted quilting fabrics. She does a lot of quilting. I bought a card for her last year and kept it for this year. My dad will be in town on Monday and I will send them back with him. They live 6 hours away by car.

That sounds like a sweet gift to me, hamchan.

I have a card that I look forward to sending Mom. I probably will not phone her on Mothers Day. As we have recently set up a phone schedule, I will share my sentiments on the Thursday before.

As my parents are elderly, I always suppose that I could lose them unexpectedly any day. This means that I send gifts, letters, emails, etc as soon as I think of it. It is hard for me to wait until the special occasions roll around on the calendar.

I usually make cards from scratch. Nit just to save money but I think personalized things are more meaningful.

What we do varies, always depends on what Mom is in the mood for. I see her almost every Sunday, so it's not like a "special" get the family together thing. I'll bring a card and flowers (she loves them, and they bring her happiness). This year, she has requested BBQ chicken, so we will just hang out at the house, cook for her, and spend time together (it will be mom, sis and I, brother will be out of town).

We buy cards and sometimes send a gift too. This year I bought $1 cards from Walmart. They were perfect to write a short note and we all signed them. I put them in the mail today. This year no gifts. I'm treating my parents to a concert in late May and counting that as their mother/father's day gift. I will call my mom, and I will remind my husband to call his...but he may or may not do that.

As for me, I have slowly taught my kids and husband that I don't want a big deal made out of mother's day. I only like to buy myself flowers for my outdoor pots and maybe a little help with planting them and I'm happy!

It's a commercial holiday and my mom knows I love her. Still a good excuse to take her out to lunch.
