That seems quite worthwhile. I will definitely be doing that.

I play the game between comcast and fios. Discounted rate for 2 years and when it expires I switch to the other carrier. I've done this about 4 or 5 times now and every time I switch they come back with the promo rate.

Are you sure your local phone company doesn't have the ability to provide internet service of some sort? Where I am we have internet service from both the cable and phone providers. With this competition my internet is under $30/mo.
Don't torture yourself, thats what I'm here for.

I used to work for the Cable/ISP so we got the works for free!

But when I left the package I had was costing us $150. So after Game of Thrones ended last year I cut cable, but not internet. My cost is now only $45.

So working for the cable company we knew "things". Eventually everyone will catch on that there's nothing worth watching on cable and they will downgrade to internet only. Comcast already does this, hence their pricing. Sports is the only thing keeping "live" tv viable. Everyone wants to watch thing On Demand now—why shouldn't they.

FYI, Sports is the main reason your bill keeps rising. The NFL jacks up it's rates and the networks have to pay, ESPN has to pay. Which is understandable, many people love football. But it goes the same for the Olympics, do you want to pay $2 more a month to watch the Olympics every two years?

As I said, eventually, everyone will watch streaming and cost of internet will rise to what cable tv costs now and it will just make cable companies even richer.

About the Olympics, I was able to watch a majority of it over the air. NBC didn't broadcast everything, but they certainly broadcast enough to my antenna for me to get my fix.

I was also able to watch the Superbowl OTA, but I know if you a sports nut, you can't get everything over the air.

The only other internet available in our area is CenturyLink. It is less expensive by a little bit, but the highest speed they have for our area is less than half of what we have now. In addition, my husband has had his email address through Comcast for over ten years. Switching emails after that long is a major pain in the rear, so the savings would have to be very worthwhile.

hamchan, the link below is instructions specifically on how to migrate Comcast e-mails to gmail. I hate to see you "trapped" to an expensive internet service provider by a simple reason like your e-mails.

Oh, that is exactly what I told him. Even of there aren't any reasonable options now, it may not always be that way. He has a gmail account that he doesn't really use. I have advised him to start switching things over to it.

We cut off the cable about 4.5 years ago. Assuming $70 a month that would be $3780 we've saved in 54 months.

We watch Netflix and have Amazon Prime.

In your situation, I would just keep cable TV.

However, you must have other options? DSL, U-verse, FIOS. They may not be cheaper, but might be worth looking in to.

If I could add TV for $10 I would, but they told me it would be a min. of $50, not including boxes or DVRs.
