  • Is the Airline Ticket Zone of Indecision real?

I was watching a news report this afternoon that said that the best time to get the cheapest airline tickets is between 3.5 months and 1 month before the flight. This is because airlines mark up prices for those who buy tickets well in advance and those who buy in the last few weeks. Supposedly the 3.5 - 1 month mark is when people often look, but are indecisive on buying, so airlines lower the prices during this time to try and get the people to commit to buying a ticket. It seems to make some sense, but is it a rule that can be relied upon most of the time?
