  • Unemployment in Pennsylvania

Does anyone know if a person can file for and collect unemployment insurance if I have student loan debt that recently went into default but I'm working my way out of?

Also, could my unemployment be denied if my husband makes a specific amount of money? I hope someone can help me or direct me to a link. Thanks

It doesn't cost anything to apply. I've never heard of debt being a reason that an unemployment insurance claim is denied though.

Have never heard of a spouse being a reason that a claim is denied either.

If you meet the requirements of UI, it's important to apply as soon as possible. There are a lot of rules and your benefits are assessed after you apply, they are not back dated to when you lost employment. Your benefits are based on what you and your employer have paid in UI premiums [sum deducted from pay], they are not related to DH's income.
