    Possible, yes.

I know it's possible to live on 16k/yr with 2 kids and live okay. Not living paycheck to paycheck, still have savings, still have christmas, kids in private school - so yes, very possible. Also depends on where you live.

We have been living on one income since 2006.

We sat down and did the math first. It is working.

        Yes

We have been doing it almost a month. It has been working fine. Being at home is a mental adjustment for me. After working for so long. That is my biggest problem. Sometimes I feel I am not pulling my weight, but then when I look at what I do all day...I think I deserve a "A Maid's" check!

It took me about 4 YEARS to adjust! It has been 8 years and I still sometimes get that feeling of really missing going to work in the morning.

Right now, my kids need me. That is more important. But it doesn't always make it easier.

So true. I remember a conversation with a person who insisted they couldn't live on one income. Of course not, with the 2 new BMW"s they had in the driveway, the fingernail upkeep, etc.

Your family must be very good at stretching the money! Your kids have scholarships for the private school? You have help with utilities, rent, food, medical, something? You inherited a home, car? I just can't see how $16,000 a year works out....Hope you will stick around to share because you must have some good skills and I think lower income people seem a little underrepresented here.

Cameorose, good to see you are so quickly feeling comfortable with the decision. If it was a medically based decision, I hope your troubles will be healed to the point that your decision is based more on what you want to do than what ill health says you must do.
