  • What about health care cost?

Health care costs is one of the biggest personal finance issues I've had to deal with. Not because of actual illness treatment expenses. Rather, because of the cost of insuring against those expenses.

I've decided on an approach to budgeting for health care that focuses on serious illness maximum expense risk rather than on premiums and routine coverage levels. And I've detailed it in my blog post How I Tamed My Health Care Cost Monster (http://www.retired-to-win.savingadvi...onster_106764/).

What is your budgeting approach to providing for the possibility of a major illness?

My employer provides health insurance which has an HSA attached. In addition to my maximum contributions they also contribute to the account on a monthly basis to give me the yearly maximum per the IRS HSA contribution rules. Very nice to have that expense taken out each pay period and a debit card to cover any deductibles or out of pocket expenses.
