Re: Do you practice Frugal Acts of Kindness, and if so- what are they?

Often, when I eat a meal out, if the server gave great service...I will ask to speak with the manager...and I share how appreciative I am about the server and how they made the meal so much more enjoyable. (It is funny to see the manager walk up with an apprehensive look...I guess they are used to being spoken to for a much different reason.)

I have also done this in department stores and banks. (I know that a written note is often discussed in front of the staff at staff meetings!!)

Having been in management, I know a compliment to the manager is much appreciated by both the manager and the employee.

I leave little gifts with my tip for my waitress. Very often it is candy to match the season, some times a candle. At Christmas I give them a card with extra money besides the regular tip.

I always say I am going to do that, but in the rush of kids, and diaper bags, and last potty before the road...I never do.

I talk to the owner almost every night. I even compliment the new buss girl because she is so fast!

when i lived someplace when i had to go over the bridge and pay a toll then i would try and pay the toll for the person behind me, if it was not too much. a dollar here or there can totally make some ones day.

This year I bought a hot chocolate for the lady ringing the Salvation Army bell...it was really cold outside where she was standing. When I told the coffee shop owner who the drink was for,he threw in two cookies. It cost me less than $2 and she was very appreciative (and hopefully warmer).

When I was going through my purse for change I kept getting these tokens for a pizza place. I finally got money out and not only gave my money to the Salvation Army Bell Ringer I also asked if she wanted the tokens. She gladly accepted them. I hope she got better use out of them than i did.

We had a very nervous server who couldn't keep up with my DH soft drink consumption. After the second time the manager filled it I explained that it wasn't the new guys fault, experienced waiters couldn't keep up with him and the guy was off the hook.

that was so nice for you to explain that to the manager...and I bet it made the servers day knowing that even "experienced waiters couldn't keep up with him".

                        Good job,

I know this thread hasn't been written on for a while, but I was very kind today and I wanted to share!!

Today I was up at school and I was planning on staying there at least until 3 or so. Because of this, I paid to park for the whole day. However, due to some problems with the student ID office, I wasn't able to do the last thing on my list (ARGH!). This made me leave 2 hours earlier than I planned! It at first made me upset because I spent $2 more than I had to! But, as I was leaving, someone was pulling into the parking lot. The spots are numbered and you pay at a machine for that numbered parking spot. Since my parking spot was paid for all day, I figured I could just let someone know. So, when I was leaving, this girl was pulling in. I gave her my receipt and let her have my parking spot. It made her day, and made my day much better.

that is so sweet for you to do that. I bet that really made her day.

A smile, a kind word, appreciation, acceptance. Priceless.

I leave coupons for items that are already on sale in the grocery store. Half the time no-one uses them though, and I find them wrinkled and expired a few weeks later.

I also give coupons to my friendly cashiers and send my expireds to military overseas and others who can use them. I buy cheap dog and cat food (w/cpns) and give it to my local humane society. If I find a deal on toiletries I don't use, I get them for the women's shelter.

I get tons of great deals myself, so I feel like I should give back somehow. I can give more stuff than I could cash, so that's what I do.
