  • Things that you shouldn't carry in your purse

I was in the store today and the lady in front of me was digging through her purse looking for her store card. Out flopped her social security card. I couldn't believe it. if she ever had her purse stolen, the thief would have everything to instantly seal her identity. This got me thinking. What other things should you never leave in your purse or wallet?

I don't keep my phone, keys, work badge (airport clearance, costs $300 to replace) or any cash in my purse.

Little post-it note with all of your online usernames & passwords. Can't even say how many guys I've seen pull out a little card from their wallet with everything listed on it, or women reaching into their purses for one... yeesh

I used to carry around my SS card, only because I had everything in one wallet. But, then I got smart and have two wallets -- one that is kept at home with more needed personal information, but I only use it when needed -- for example, if I ever need my SS card, insurance card, checkbook, etc.

Other one is my debt card, credit card, cash, store cards and ID. At least with credit/debit cards, they can be canceled quickly if stolen lost, as long as you're responsible and get it done! Other than that I carry around a small purse with chapstick and mints and etc. My keys are always in my coat pocket, right on me, and that's it! I find it easier to deal with anyway with fewer things.

How about things you SHOULD carry?

I keep a piece of paper in my wallet marked "Emergency Contacts." If I'm incapacitated and unable to tell emergency personnel whom to call, I hope that they find it! It lists my fiance, my mother, and my work. I also have my own first name & number on there, in case I should lose my wallet and some kind soul actually tries to return it.

My phone is password protected, so they wouldn't be able to get numbers from there. (This is because once my sister had a work meeting in a public library and everyone left the room to take a break, and when they returned, every phone that was NOT password protected, including hers, had been stolen. Apparently the thief didn't think it worthwhile to take the password protected phones.)
