I am starting to realize that trying to stay out of debt during a medical crisis is sort of like a country not incurring a deficit during wartime. Not realistic. We are at war right now.
DH is kind of mentally unstable right now. We know what is going on, but if things don't improve like they are supposed to I will need to persue POA or at least getting him committed. As result of his mental state he is not taking good care of himself physically as well, and this is bad. Our insurance carrier changed on the first, so the timing is particularly bad as he doesn't have any doctors yet.
I cannot keep working seven days a week either. My body is not letting me. I am sick for the second time in less than a month and my muscles are giving out. I will be talking to one of my employers this week and let them know I can either stay on to take occasional sub shifts or quit. I already do sub shifts only at my other job, and I like the flexibility. A massage business less than a mile from our apartment is also looking for someone to take sub shifts, and I have a practical interview tomorrow. It turned out the owner and I have a mutual friend who is also a coworker and former classmate, and when he asked her about me she had nothing but good things to say. Had lunch with her today and she said that he already loves me (had a verbal interview last week) so she is confident I will be hired. Regardless of what happens with either job I will be limiting myself to 5-6 days a week starting at the end of this month.
I have been consolidating some of the smaller debts onto my lowest interest CC to get the minimum payment as low as possible. Have been able to pay off one hospital bill (I auctioned off all the paintings I have done and not sold for the last few years and made 1500 total) and DH Is selling his shares of company stock to pay off another. I should probably see of it's possible to get any of it under DH's name though incase another bankruptcy starts to look imminent, since I filed only two years ago. Is that possible? His credit should be good enough now to open a high limit one in his name. Can we transfer a balance from a card in my name over to it? He is an AU on it. What if I made him a joint account holder? I need to consult an attorney I guess. It's only around 2500 right now at least. I will continue throwing every extra dollar at it as long as we can. In addition to that we still have two of my student loans (13,000 and 4000) and one more hospital bill, which is just under 1200 right now. We will likely need to incur more debt in May when DD graduates, because I will have to go and there is no room in the budget for it.
We will look again at moving in the spring when the college students leave. Not feeling super optimistic, but DH says it's the best time to look. So we'll see. He is still wanting to get a second job. He's not all that connected with reality at the moment.
