Since you group of people on SavingsAdvice.com are the smartest people I know, I figured I'd try asking here about a problem I've run in to.
Story: There's TONS of Flyers all over my town about a Missing/Stolen Siberian Husky. This guy is obviously devastated about his dog being missing. He also has a Facebook page made for it. https://www.facebook.com/helpmefindmyshadow
Based on what I've read on the page he's convinced Shadow was Stolen, not lost. My thinking is that someone who's low-lifed enough to STEAL someone else's dog would gladly return it for enough money. I asked him how much the reward is and he said he can only come up with $500.
I said I would give $500 to whomever came forward with information leading to the return of Shadow. I figured this would double the chances (if she was stolen) of her being returned.
Problem: When I messaged the guy about my proposition he said he's had a few people say they would also give money to the rescuer, and if he added them all up would be $2,000. We have no idea how to handle the money. I'm not ready to just hand him a $500 donation. I am only pledging the money to the person that leads to the dog's return.
Question: How do we go about doing this in an honest way??
