I had the contractor here at the building put all of the scrap metal from our bathroom renovations (8 total) in my pickup at the end of the day. Cashed in copper and brass to the tune of $540 at the end of the project which was a nice "bonus" for not really lifting a finger.

I make about $8-10 recycling the cans and bottles from the drinks we buy. Also, if I find any can or bottle in the parking lot, I pick it up and put it in a the plastic bag in my trunk. Then, I recycle it with the rest of my staff.

I guess it depends how convenient the places are. If you pass them regularly going to and from work, you could just keep a bin in your trunk and stop on the way. Fortunately we have curbside pickup so it isn't an issue here.

LA does have curbside recycling. We have a problem with people going through the recycle bins and stealing what is designated for the city.

I must say that when our recycling rewards program first started, I wondered if that would be a problem here. Would people start cleaning out their neighbors' bins to increase their own rewards?

I haven't heard of it being a problem, probably because the rewards program really isn't all that fantastic. If the rewards were better, it probably would happen.

Before, I recycle bottled/canned sodas and newspapers - but since I became health conscious, soda intake stopped and since a great technology called the internet was made, I stopped buying newspapers. I guess by that, I saved a lot!
