My bachelors is in international relations with a focus in Latin America foreign policy, Eastern European development and international organizational development. I minors in Spanish, French and global peace studies.

My masters is international and intercultural management.

While I don't work directly in my fields of study as an emergency planner, my skills sets of analytical reasoning, writing, group dynamics and team building, research, presentation skills, technical writing and editing are used on a daily basis. I have always thought about it as a grouping of skills practiced in one educational topic instead of just one educational track.

That being said, I am currently in Washington D.C. Completing the third phase of the exam necessary for becoming a foreign service officer with the dept of state. That is directly related to my previous educational studies.

Ah, when I was in HS, my picks were Aerospace Engineering or Astrophysics. Astrophysics (well, BS in physics) was my first option. My parents talked me out of it because they thought I wouldn't be able to find a job. One of the worst decisions of my life. Not doing what I was interested in. I'd love to go back to school and get a BS in Physics, but they don't have any evening programs in my area. I'd have to quit my job and go full-time.

I have a degree in Journalism. I wanted to work as a news writer. Unfortunately, there are no vacant positions for news writers. I am currently working as a part time English tutor and a freelance script writer !

My degree is in Finance but my primary job is IT/eCommerce/Project Management - so not really. However, I still love personal finance and that's what my blog is all about.

Yes and no. I have a science degree and have veered more in a medical direction.

My degree and work experience is the reason I have the job though and I get paid accordingly so my degree was not wasted. It's landed me many opportunities all scientifically inclined. Each job I've had has helped me get to where I am now. I'm hoping this job is finally the one that will hook me up with something more permanent.

                      Yes, but not always.

I have a BA in Elementary Education - taught elementary for 8 years.
Then I took a break of 4 years where I definitely was not using my degree, but during that time got my Masters in Information Science (aka Library Sciences).
I am using my MA and BA as an elementary school librarian.

I was one of those who knew LONG before going to college exactly what major I wanted to do.

My brother didn't know what he wanted to do when he went to college, but after his first two years doing general studies, decided on Marketing. He didn't use his degree for 6 years, but now for the past 3 1/2 he has used it.

For 17 years I worked full-time in a job directly related to my major. Then I owned a business that was completely unrelated, and where it wasn't even necessary to have a college degree. Now I work in a field where a 4-year degree is the minimum educational requirement, but it is not related to my major.

I met my husband at my first job after college (directly related to major) and he owns a business that I help him with that is also related to my major, so my major has paid off for me both in terms of job and "the rest of my life."

Can she wait a year or two to declare her major? There is a lot to be said for a well-rounded education and trying different things. It's perfectly normal not to know what you will want to do for the rest of your life when you are 18. Heck, I STILL don't know what I want to do for the rest of MY life.

Took a 4 year course - Hotel and Restaurant Management - not my first choice at all. My dad was the one who chose it for me because he wanted me to go to the school that offers this particular major. My first choice was Psychology then second was Journalism - fortunately, I was admitted to take Journalism at a certain college but my dad forbidden it since the school that is willing to admit me to take Journalism wasn't on his "list of schools" that I have to go to.

Anyway, after graduating, I never worked at a hotel or even at a restaurant. My first job was a call center agent and now a researcher - way too far from my course - I should've taken up Journalism.

I have a sister who my dad chose to go for Nursing - not my sister's choice - but she's a sneaky one. What she did was she dropped all her subjects and wanted to go for Fine Arts instead (her first love). My dad had no choice but to permit it. Now my sister is happy with her work which is a lay out editor and photographer (which is connected to her major).

I also have a brother wherein my dad chose to go for Computer Programming - again not my brother's choice - he also loves to take up Psychology or Journalism but never happened. He too became a call center agent and now he is testing games (which he really loves doing even for past time since he's a gamer).

I guess when my children goes to college, I'll let them choose what they really want.

                            Um, sort of?????

I am working in my graduate degree, but not my undergrad.

                            Undergrad: Anthropology B.A.
Grad: Education (Teaching Credentials and TESOL) M.A.
                            Grad: School Counseling M.A.

I floundered with what to major in while in undergrad. My father told me to JUST FINISH and that he didn't care what I majored in, just get the BA and worry about specializing in grad school. It really was the best advice for me. I would have needed an MA anyway to end up where I wanted to end up.

I have a BA in computer science with a minor in multimedia and I work as a web developer, so I am using my degree. I'm in the minority in my office though. A couple of months ago, the HR guy did an informal survey asking everyone what they had a degree in, trying to gauge what he should be looking for in new hires. Out of the 6 developers in the room at the time, only 2 of us had CS degrees. There were two foreign language degrees, one music education degree, and one rabbinical studies degree.

                                a insurance advisor in Rome

My major is in financial market. I work from 5 years like insurance advisor. So I work in the field that I studied for the 40% for this reasons that are following.

This kind of job doesn't required strong technically skills so I had improved my ability in relationship management in order to have a good return (mostly economic).

I like to plan the investment programm of the people, but this is no more good when you haven't fix income and your average wage is not enough for live alone (without parents' aid).

I am trying to find new job but Rome doesn't offer nothing better (until now)...in Italy we say: "the hope is the last to die).
