What book are you reading now?

Not a frugal question, but could be entertaining to see what frugal people everywhere read when it 's not necessarily related to money.

I'm reading "The Ha Ha," or something like that. It's my book discussion book pick.

im reading a 4 book set in one book by nora roberts called the calhune women..i think the one im reading is someone for suzanna or something to that effect.

Wake Up & Live! by Dorothea Brande

First published in 1936. it the first self help book that I ever read over 45 years ago now, I just took the book out of my own library to read again. Yes, to that question you are thinking too!

Class Matters by Correspondents of The New York Times

Excellent book about social class in America. It has a slight liberal bias, but it is not blatant. At the beginning it has poll results showing that most Americans think you need an annual income of more than $100,000 to be considered rich. It also shows why the richer you are, the better your health is--and it is not just about insurance coverage.

If you were wondering which socal class you belong to, the poll results in the book show most people believe they are Working Class if they have not graduated from college and earn less than $50,000. Most people believe they are Middle Class if they earn over $50,000 and do not have a college degree or earn less than $100,000 and do have a college degree. Someone in the Upper Middle Class earns more than $100,000 a year and has a degree. Almost no one considers themself lower class or upper class.

Interesting stuff. Easy reading. After the first chapter, it contains lots of profiles of people who have crossed class lines or who are stuck in a certain class and want out. It's really about how my America is completely different from your America.

goodhome - That sounds very interesting. I'll have to request it from the library.
Right now I have almost finished Too Much of A Good Thing: Raising Children of Character in an Indulgent Age. Good book, but not what I expected. I thought it would focus more on the "indulgent age" (i.e. rampant consumerism in society), but it really focuses more on the "raising children" part. I think I have a pretty good grip on how I want to raise my kids - I wanted to learn more about how to keep the outside influences out! But still, a good book and definitely an eye-opener. It says a lot of things that need to be said about how a lot of kids are raised today.

I love Jane Eyre; it's my all-time favorite book. I should re-read it. Nowadays, with two young kids, I only read books that rhyme

Since trying to be frugal I try to re-read too. Just re-read Clarke's "The Light of Other Days". But I broke down and bought Orson Scott Card's Shadow of the Giant. I love the Ender novels.

"We were Soldiers Once and Young" is the title of the bok I am almost finished reading. It is an emotional read.

"Work Less, Live More" by Bob Clyatt. Straight from my library. So far it's a decent read and moves quick.

"The Last Camel Died at Noon" by Elizabeth Peters. Book on CD from the Library.

"Ellinika Tora." Studying up for my Trip to Greece this summer. I own it.

"A Greek Family Helps you Learn Greek" I own.

"Annette and the Mystery at Moonstone Bay" by Doris Schroeder. A nice easy 1960's kids book for those non-thinking days. I own it, 3 books for $1.

And I also have at least 2 Shape magazines to finish, and I get the paper Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

Yep, I'm fluent.

Simple conversations are all you'll need. Even if you falter, most anyone under the age of 35 can speak english.
