  • Which internship should I choose?

Please help me in figuring out which internship to choose:

-Investment Banking internship at a large firm, where I'll learn all the different aspects of IB, shadow my mentor, sit in on meetings, take trips to headquarters and much more. I'll be exposed to all the different positions, to see which best fits my interest.

    OR

-Northwestern Mutual's Financial Representative Internship (Insurance & Mutual Bonds).

Which would be better to have (experience wise) on your resume and which is the better job period? Additionally, which would you choose and why?

Investment Banking, hands down! With that on your resume, you will have no problem getting a great job straight out of college.

Thank you very much for your response!

I am trying to do what's in the best interest of my resume, since I may not even choose to go into Investment Banking once I graduate. It's 50/50 when it comes to everyone I speak in regards to choosing which program - which is making it much harder on my decision.

I feel like the Northwestern Mutual internship is good and structured; most of the people either love or hate the internship. With that being said the Investment Banking internship just seems better and seems like I'll learn just as much and more.

I work in derivatives research. You don't have to go into IBanking when you graduate. When I interview people, I would favor someone with an internship in IBanking over someone with an internship in insurance. An Ibanking internship proves to me that you are very smart and hardworking. It's not easy to land an internship in IBanking. It will open up so many more doors when you are eventually looking for a job. I also had the opportunity to get into IBanking when I graduated. The horror stories I had heard from others kept me out of it. I enjoy market research, so I decided to make it my career.

I would recommend the IB internship. My DD completed an internship with Northwestern Mutual and it was akin to a glorified boiler room.
